Free Individual Trekkers are no more allowed in the trekking regions of Nepal. Trekkers from other countries will have to go through a trekking company to make sure the guides and supporters have insurance in the trekking areas.
The government of Nepal has announced a new rule mandating the use of trekking guides for all foreign visitors trekking in the country’s mountainous regions. The decision was made in an effort to improve the safety of trekkers and boost tourism in the region.
According to the new rule, all foreign visitors must hire a licensed trekking guide to accompany them on any trekking routes in Nepal. The guide must be registered with the government and hold a valid license issued by the Ministry of Tourism.
This new regulation is set to come into effect from April 1, 2023, and will apply to all trekking routes across the country. The government hopes that this will help to reduce the number of accidents and fatalities that occur each year on Nepal’s treacherous mountain trails.
The decision to make trekking guides mandatory is a response to a number of incidents involving trekkers getting lost or injured while trekking alone. In addition, many trekkers have suffered from altitude sickness or other medical emergencies, and without a guide to help, their situation can quickly become life-threatening.
The government hopes that this new rule will not only improve the safety of trekkers but also boost tourism in the region. Nepal is famous for its stunning mountain scenery and attracts thousands of visitors every year who come to trek in the Himalayas. However, in recent years, the number of visitors has declined due to safety concerns.
The government has assured visitors that the licensed guides are well-trained and experienced in dealing with all types of emergencies that may arise during a trek. They will also be able to provide trekkers with valuable information about the region’s culture, history, and natural attractions.
While some trekking companies and independent trekkers have expressed concerns over the additional cost of hiring a guide, the government argues that this new rule is essential for the safety and wellbeing of all visitors to Nepal’s mountainous regions.
The new rule is expected to be strictly enforced, with penalties for those found trekking without a licensed guide. Visitors are advised to check with their trekking company or tour operator to ensure that they comply with the new regulation.
Overall, this new rule is a positive step towards improving the safety of visitors and boosting tourism in Nepal’s mountainous regions. By working together, the government, trekking companies, and visitors can ensure that Nepal remains a safe and exciting destination for trekkers from all over the world.
Trekkers will need permit cards and Trekker’s Information Management System( TIMS card) for the following regions of Nepal.

This is totally wrong ., the govt have not made this law it’s a recommendation from the greedy trekking companies .,, the Everest regional authority have already stated you DO not need a guide and so far most other areas are ignoring this money grab
Thank you for your response. As an official trekking company in Nepal, we cannot deny the government’s rule and guide our guests to break the rules. We know that the rule is not properly enforced in the trekking areas by the government. But still, rule is rule and I just wanted to list out all the trekking areas and trekking routes in Nepal in this article.
Regards,
Nabin
